Former Man Utd and Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho said that the Premier League title will be over if Liverpool beat Manchester City.

The Premier League leaders Liverpool are set to host the defending champions on Sunday at 18:30 (CLT). Liverpool are six points clear ahead of Anfield's encounter following their unbeaten start of this Premier League season.

Mourinho said that he is very confident that Liverpool would be the Premier League champions if they defeat Man City.

“I think Jurgen cannot say it but I can, I think nine points is, for a very good team, it’s a difference that you just have to control, so I would say that if Liverpool win the game today, they will win the league," he said during a statement to Skysports.

The former Man Utd coach said the draw result would be the worst-case scenario for the Reds, however, it will be a very good result for the Citizen.

“I don’t think a point is enough for them. City are a very good team, they are capable of very strong runs, of consecutive victories and a slip for Liverpool will always happen," Mourinho explained.

"So I think it can be a little bit of a contradiction because Liverpool is a team with a six-point advantage but, for me, a draw would be a positive result for City and a bad result for Liverpool," he added.

“Liverpool have to get momentum and, in my opinion, win the game at home at Anfield, that’s the only good result for Liverpool,” the 56-year old concluded.

Noteworthy, on Friday, the iconic Egyptian star Mohamed Salah said that it is so early to talk about claiming Premier League trophy even if Liverpool manage to defeat holders Manchester City.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the iconic Egyptian star warned from saying that the title is over. “They were talking about that [title race] in December last year when we were six or seven points ahead saying it was over,” Salah said.
