Liverpool resumed their adventure in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Southampton at St Mary's Stadium on Saturday.

Sadio Mane put Liverpool ahead after the Senegalese forward created a tiny bit of space for himself around the edge of the penalty and unleashed a right-foot shot past Angus Gunn.

The Brazillian forward Roberto Firmino doubled the scoring in the 70th minute when he fired a right-foot shot from Southampton's penalty area.

Danny Ings revived his side's hope in the game after 83 minutes, when he took advantage of a wayward pass from Liverpool's goalkeeper Adrian to Fabinho, intercepting and going on to score as he pulled a goal back for Southampton.

Southampton came close to take the shock lead after 22 minutes through Maya Yoshida, whose brilliant header was kept away by Liverpool's second-choice keeper Adrian.

Liverpool will take on Arsenal on Saturday, August 24 at Anfield in a tasty game, while Southampton will face Brighton on Saturday at 16:00 CLT.

The Reds made an ideal start to the 2019-20 season by demolishing newly-promoted Norwich City at Anfield 4-1 on Friday night. Liverpool will resume their adventure in the Premier League against Southampton on Saturday, August 17.

It is worth mentioning that Liverpool ended their 14-year wait for a UEFA Super Cup title by beating Chelsea on penalties 5-4 to win the tournament at Vodafone Park Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey.
