Liverpool-Man City Contest Overshadows CAF Awards 2019

The competition between Liverpool and Manchester City will move Tuesday to Hurghada, Egypt, where the ceremony of the CAF Player of the Year award is set to take place.

Senegal's captain Sadio Mane, Liverpool's star Mohamed Salah and Algeria's Captain and Man City Riyad Mahrez were nominated for the 2019 CAF Player of the year award, which will be held on Tuesday, 7 January 2020.

The contest between the Reds and the Citizens will not be in the Premier League, but it will be among their players, who were nominated to scoop this prestigious award.

If Mahrez manages to win the award, Man City will top the list of the clubs, which their players succeeded in scooping their award.

Man City and Olympique de Marseille topped the list of the clubs with four awards, followed by Liverpool (3 awards), Chelsea, Monaco and Barcelona (2 awards),

The three international players put in a brilliant performance with their Premier League clubs and their national team during the last year.

Salah:

During 2019, the 27-year-old Egyptian star puts in a sparkling performance with Liverpool during 2019 as he won the Premier League top scorer award in 2019.

Salah also guided the Reds to claim the Uefa Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and recently the Fifa Club World Cup titles during the last year , as well as, leading them to attain the Premier League leadership during the current season as they managed to maintain their unbeaten start to this Premier League season after dropping just two points till now.

Noteworthy, Salah won the African Player of the Year award in the last season for the second successive year.

Mane:

Mane guided his national team to reach the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, before suffering a 0-1 defeat from Algeria.

He also claimed the Uefa Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and recently the Fifa Club World Cup trophies with Liverpool.

Mahrez: 

Mahrez smashed a number of records during 2019 as he led his national team to lift the Africa Cup of Nations title.

He also claimed four titles with the Citizens; the Premier League, EFL Cup, FA Cup, and FA Community Shield.
