Liverpool issue final Mohamed Salah plea as Egypt refuse to give up

Liverpool are bracing themselves for "one last" plea from the Egypt national team to take Mohamed Salah to the Tokyo Olympics.

Salah, 29, was selected in his country's preliminary squad for the summer Games as one of the three overage players permitted in the Under-23 squad, with Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny also included.

But the Reds are yet to sanction their player travelling to Japan for the Olympics, which have been postponed by one year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Salah taking part for Egypt would allow him almost no time to prepare for the start of the Premier League season in August.

The Egyptian international  winger would also miss a huge chunk of Jurgen Klopp's pre-season preparations.
