On Wednesday, the general commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar received the director of Egypt's Military Intelligence Department, Major General Khaled Megawer, and an accompanying delegation at the headquarters of LNA.

According to Sky News Channel, Megawer also met with the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Abdul Razzaq Al-Nadhouri, and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Saqr Al-Jaroushi.

Haftar received a relevant message from the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, through the Director of Egyptian Military Intelligence, who are preparing to develop a joint strategy because of the dynamics that Turkey and Qatar are taking in favor of the Government of National Accord (GNA) led by Fayez al-Sarraj.

The visit came at a sensitive time, as the National Army seeks to counter the movements of the Al-Wefaq government militia seeking to strike the eastern city with Turkish and Qatari support.

On Tuesday, the Government of National Accord announced that it had reached an agreement with Qatar and Turkey to dispatch soldiers from the two countries to Tripoli, to support the militias that work for the government.

This is the first time that the Government of the National Accord concluded a military agreement with Qatar. Previously, Al-Sarraj had signed a security and maritime agreements with Turkey, which sparked widespread regional and international criticism.

Ankara supplies Tripoli with weapons, military equipment, and drones, as well as loyal Syrian mercenaries to fight alongside the GNA government forces.

On Monday, the Qatari Minister of Defense visited Tripoli during the Turkish Defense Minister’s visit to the city, to discuss the "tripartite" martial cooperation between Doha, Ankara, and Tripoli.

During a meeting conducted by the Prime Minister of National Accord, Fayez al-Sarraj, with the two ministers, the talks dealt with "developments in the situation in Libya and the military build-up in eastern Sirte and the Jufra region," according to a statement issued by the government's media office.

Libya's civil war that started since 2014 pits the LNA, which is associated with the other eastern executive in Tobruk and supported externally by Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, France, and Russia, against, supported by Qatar and Turkey, as well as Italy and the United Nations (UN) since 2016.
