Libyan Parties Agree to Distribute Sovereign Positions between 3 Regions

The committee concerned with the selection of sovereign positions in Libya reached an agreement regarding a mechanism for choosing qualified people for senior posts in the country.

This came during their meetings in the Moroccan city of Bouznika.

A member of the Libyan Dialogue Forum revealed to "Sputnik", a Russian News Agency, that the members of the Highest State Council and Parliament agreed, during the meetings in the Moroccan city of Bouznika, to distribute the sovereign positions into the three main geographical regions in the country.

The Tripoli District will be responsible for the Accounting Office and the Attorney General, while the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Supreme Court will be administered by the Fezzan Region and the Central Bank, and the Administrative Control by be directed by representatives of  Barqa Region.

The Libyan source stressed that the agreement will need to be ratified by the Supreme Council of State and Parliament after each party returns to its council.

Earlier, the head of the Presidency Council of the Libyan Government of National Accord, Fayez Al-Sarraj, called, during an official letter to the United Nations (UN) and the UN Security Council, to support the general presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled to be held on December 24, 2021, in Libya.

The statement indicated that "this is the response to the will of the Libyan people and what they have approved and according to the findings of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum in Tunis."

The statement added that Al-Sarraj asked the UN Security Council to issue a resolution to support the political process on the specified date and to grant a mandate to the UN mission to Libya to support it.

Al-Sarraj also requested the UN to provide the necessary technical capabilities and to study the means of insurance the success of the political initiative in Libya to pass the current impasse.
