Hassan Hamdy, former President of the Al-Ahly club explained that the slogan "Al-Ahly above All" means that the interest of Al-Ahly is above all the people affiliated with it, including members of the board of directors, players and everything else.
Hamdy added: “Al-Ahly won the league's title 75% of the time, as it is essential for the club. Winning the African championships was the most important for me as a player or as an official."
"The best championship I won was the African Championship with the “Students” team which included many Egyptian football stars, led by the legend Mahmoud Al-Khatib."

Hassan Hamdy said, during his interview with Mustafa Abdo on “El-Magary” program on Al-Ahly TV channel: “My beginning was playing for Al-Ahly during separate and different times. "I used to sit on the bench, because I came during a generation of giants."
"When the war sparked, the league was suspended for 5 years to end the career of most of these players, and when it resumed, new generations came out."
He continued: "My football career is only 10 years, and the injury prevented me from continuing. I retired when I was 28 years old but, I did not stay away from the club in order to preserve my name, and in the same year I became the director of the football."
He added: “Commitment” is one of the most important features of success in Al-Ahly, and whoever stays away from it, will be outside the club, and there are several examples of that."
“My ideal is Saleh Selim, and he laid the foundations and laws governing relations within the club, and the most rules were laid by him. When I entered the team, Abdel Mohsen Mortaga, the club’s president at that time, I asked for powers to be the director of the football, and all powers were granted and we set laws and regulations for managing the team, which I learned from Saleh Selim."

Hamdy played for Al Ahly football team as a midfielder/defender in 1960 and 1970, and was the 20th captain of the squad. He played for Egypt national football team from early seventies to late 70s .
He was the 12th and president of the Al Ahly SC and the chairman of Al-Ahram advertising agency and the president of the International Advertising Association (IAA)'s Cairo branch.
