Today, Saturday, the Red Cross said that a boat sank in Tripoli port, with about 60 people on board, according to Lebanon's Al Jadeed channel.

Lebanese people usually leave on illegal boats to find a new foothold in neighboring countries, especially Cyprus, to escape the dire reality in the country due to successive crises and deteriorating economic conditions.

In a previous report published in January 2022, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees confirmed an increase in cruise departures from Lebanon starting in 2020, compared to previous years.

According to the report, most of the Lebanese migrants leave the country through the shores of El-Mina and Qalamoun in northern Lebanon, towards European countries.

Between January 2021 and November of the same year, more than 1,570 migrants embarked or attempted to embark on such journies to improve their living conditions in a new country.
