Lavrov: War in Syria Has Ended

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that war in Syria has ended.

In an interview with the newspaper Trud, Lavrov added that Syria is gradually returning to the normal peaceful life.

"A number of hotspots of tensions remain only in the areas that are not controlled by the Syrian government, such as Idlib and the east bank of the Euphrates," Lavrov revealed.

Amid these circumstances, the Russian minister pointed out to the tasks of providing comprehensive humanitarian aid to Syria, and pushing the political process to solve the crisis and achieve credible and long-term stability in the country, and in the whole Middle East region.

“We believe that the formation and launching of a committee aimed at developing constitutional reform will be an important step in advancing the Syrian-led political process implemented with the assistance of the United Nations,” Lavrov stressed.

The minister noted that Moscow attaches great importance to maintaining regular contacts with all Syrian parties, including the opposition.

He stressed that the opposition plays an important role, it participates in the joint Syrian contacts in Geneva and in meetings of the Astan talks.

Noteworthy, war in Syria began in 2011, at the end of 2017, Syria declared its victory over terrorism.
