American actor Keanu Reeves will star in the long-gestating TV adaptation of Erik Larson’s “Devil in the White City” for Hulu.
The streamer announced Thursday a limited series order for the series, which depicts the story of Daniel H. Burnham, a demanding but visionary architect who races to make his mark on history with the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair.
It also follows Dr. H. H. Holmes, America’s first modern serial killer and the man behind the notorious “Murder Castle” built in the Fair’s shadow.
“Devil in the White City” consists of eight episodes and is slated to be released in 2024. It marks Reeves’ first major U.S. TV role.
The series is directed by Todd Field from a screenplay adapted by Sam Shaw, with the latter also serving as showrunner.
Executive Producers are Reeves, Shaw, Field, Martin Scorsese, Rick Yorn, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Davisson, Stacey Sher, Lila Byock, and Mark Lafferty.
The series arrives from ABC Signature in Association with Paramount Television Studios and is set to begin principal photography next year.
The project has been in various stages of development since DiCaprio bought the movie rights to the book in 2010 and previously set it up as a movie at Paramount with Scorsese to direct.
In 2019, Hulu announced that it was developing the project as a big-budget series with DiCaprio and Scorsese exec producing.
