Journalists Condemn El Gouna's Plan to Honor Pro-Zionism Actor

The Egyptian Syndicate of journalists signed issued a statement Today, rejecting El Gouna Film Festival's plans to honor French actor "Gerard Depardieu", who supports the Zionist entity, .

The statement said that the intention of honoring the Depardieu is a form of unacceptable normalization with Israel.

The Syndicate of journalists has already signed a petition rejecting honoring the Franch actor. Among the names that signed the petition are Hisham Younes, Muhammad Kharaga, Mahmoud Kamel, Mohammed Saad Abdel Hafeez, and Amr Badr.

Moreover, honoring Depardieu violates the unanimous agreement of the General Assembly of the Art Unions Federation. In addition,  the majority of Egyptian artists reject all forms of normalization with the Zionist enemy and its supporters.

Moreover, Depardieu has been accused of rape and the case is still pending investigation under French law, the ' statement reported.

Earlier, in 2018, Cairo International Film Festival planned to honor French filmmaker, Claude Lelouch, after being heavily criticized in Egypt, for his supporting Israel, but the festival withdrew its invitation to Lelouch when the artists opposed the move.

Earlier this month the El Gouna Film Festival (GFF) revealed that the French actor would receive this year’s Career Achievement Award. The 4th edition of the El Gouna Film Festival is scheduled to take place from October 23 to 31, 2020.
