The release date for American Hip-hop icon Jennifer Lopez's latest movie "The Mother" has been unveiled.

The action thriller is set to premiere on Netflix on May 12.

"The Mother" is centered around an assassin who comes out of hiding to protect her daughter while evading dangerous assailants.

The movie features Lucy Paez as Lopez's daughter and Joseph Fiennes as a scar-faced villain. It also stars Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci, and Gael García Bernal.

The project was announced in February 2021. Production of the movie began in Vancouver in October 2021 before filming was suspended due to a coronavirus outbreak. Filming resumed in March 2022 on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria with principal photography wrapping not long afterward.

"The Mother" is directed by Niki Caro from a screenplay co-written by Misha Green, who is making her feature film debut.

Lopez and Elaine Goldsmith Thomas are producing for Nuyorican Productions with Roy Lee and Miri Yoon for Vertigo alongside Green, Benny Medina, and Marc Evans. Molly Allen is serving as executive producing.
