Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said it plans to send firefighting equipment to the Ukrainian government to help people involved in rescue operations in the country, amid Russia's military operation against Ukraine.

The ministry, according to the Japanese radio NHK, said today, Friday, that it will send the necessary equipment for rescue operations in the areas where the battles are taking place, noting that this step comes in response to a request from the Ukrainian government.

The radio added that 25 different types of items will be sent, including about 1,300 sets of firefighter turnout gear, 50 hydraulic jacks, 150 stretchers and 25 satellite mobile phones, noting that some items were purchased from the headquarters of firefighting departments, while private companies provided the items.

It indicated that the shipments are expected to to be sent later this month with the help of the United Nations Office for Project Services, stressing that the equipment will be delivered to Ukrainian government officials in Poland.
