ROME, JULY 11 (SEE) Egypt will begin exporting natural gas to EU countries by the end of 2018, Italian news agency Nova reported.

The agency pointed out that surplus natural gas production in Egypt will reach about one billion cubic feet per day.

Head of the LNG Consumers Union Mohamed Saad Eldin said, "Egypt is determined to respect the signed contracts for the export of gas to the EU countries."

The European Union has expressed its continued support for Egypt to become a regional gas center, he added.

Egypt has 29 gas processing plants and two natural gas liquefaction plants in Edku and Damietta governorate, and there are plans for production by 2020 that coincide with the boom of the "Zohr" field.
