Israel Attempt to Gain Acceptance in Egyptian Cultural Life

Since the signing of the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel, Israel attempts to deepen the social and cultural ties with Egypt especially in the light of the Egyptian rejection of the Israeli presence in Egyptian arts and cultural life.

So, many Israeli officials try to earn the acceptance of Egyptians through posting greetings, appreciations, and lately condolences but those efforts have met by satire, rejection, and sometimes ironical memes.

Yesterday, the Israeli ambassador to Egypt Amira Oron issued a strange tweet about her relation with Syrian musician Farid Al Atrash on his 110th birth anniversary.

Oron tweeted, “When my mom came to visit me in Cairo, she asked me to visit Al Atrash’s grave to lay a wreath of flowers on his grave, she loves his music and his songs bring unforgettable memories to our minds” after sharing an official statement posted on the page of Israeli Embassy in Cairo about Al Atrash.

Moreover, Avichay Adraeedue, the spokesman of the Israeli Armed Forces offered his condolences over well-known Egyptian actor Mahmoud Yassin’s death, despite the fact that Yassin had played many roles in national films embodying the epic of 6th of October war victory.

The official page of the Israeli Embassy in Egypt posted other surprising condolences due to Mahmoud Abdel Aziz’s death! Abdel Aziz who was honored by the Armed Forces and the National Intelligence Directorate after starring the hero of Egyptian Intelligence Ra’fat Al Haggan.

Another Egyptian cinema icons drew the attraction of Israeli officials especially Avichay Adreedue like Shwekar, Ahmed Zaki, and Haitham Ahmed Zaki.

Offering condolences is not the only way followed by Israel, but two years ago one of the Israel officials claimed the participation of an Arabic Israeli singer Dalal Abu Amneh at Saladin Citadel Musical Festival organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture activities.

In the same context, Abu Amneh commented on Twitter, “We came to Egypt as Palestinians, carrying the sorrow of our land, raising the voice of Palestine! This is our identity and our issue.”
