Egypt's minister of water resources and irrigation Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aty met on Tuesday Giampaolo Cantini, the Italian ambassador in Cairo. They discussed a number of issues of mutual interest in the field of water resources.

During the meeting, they tackled the project offered by the Italian side as a grant to Egypt under the title of "Water Knowledge", which aims to build the administrative and technical capacities of those in charge of water management in Egypt and the Nile Basin countries within the framework of supporting the sustainable water management.

They also reviewed the success achieved by the EU-funded project, in the field of rehabilitation and development of the irrigation infrastructure.

The project was implemented in Fayoum, and Minya governorates, in cooperation with the National Water Research Center.

On his part, Abdel Aty also revealed that the ministry is preparing to organize a training course for African trainees to be held before the "Fourth Cairo Water Week" conference set for October 2021, in order to present the results of this course during the conference sessions.

Concerning the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) crisis, the Egyptian Minister stressed that Egypt is willing to resume negotiations on GERD, noting that any agreement should preserve Egypt's water rights.

"We seek a fair and legally binding agreement over the filling and operation of GERD," the minister continued.
