On Sunday, Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Services (ICTS) announced the arrest of an ISIS-affiliated militant in an operation in Kirkuk.  The operation was conducted with collaboration from the Iraqi National Intelligence Service (INIS).

“The Monitoring and Investigation Unit of the CTS also dismantled an explosive device planted by ISIS terrorist gangs to target a military convoy of the Iraqi security forces,” said Yehia Rasool, spokesperson for PM Mustafa al-Kadhimi as the commander-in-chief of Iraq’s armed forces.

A spokesperson  for the coalition against ISIS commended the Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) in a tweet and said, “The ISF continues to operate independently to ensure the enduring defeat of ISIS.”

In June 2014, the ISIS terrorist group captured Mosul, Salahuddin and Anbar provinces and parts of Diyala and Kirkuk provinces, which have been recaptured from the organization over the years.

On Dec. 9, 2017, former Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced victory over ISIS. Although it has been three years since Iraq was purged from ISIS, attacks by the terrorist group continue in rural areas of these provinces.
