Hours ago, Iraq stressed that Turkish attacks on its lands are threatening the regional peace and are attacking the country's sovereignty, lives and property of Iraqis.

In a statement, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhemi called for immediate stop to the Turkish attacks on Iraq, that harm the relationship of the two peoples in the two countries.

"The Turkish forces have been carrying out repeated attacks against Iraq for a long time.. We strongly reject and condemn these actions that harm the close, long-standing relations between the two friendly peoples," the statement read.

He pointed out that "the Iraqi government has sent two letters of protest to the Turkish ambassador in Baghdad, which are strongly worded, and stresses that it will resort within the framework of international law, to confirm the right of Iraq to reject and stop these attacks."

The statement added: "The Turkish side has legal and moral responsibility for all the human and material losses that occur, in addition to the violation and aggression against Iraq, its sovereignty, stability, territorial integrity and security of its people."

The Iraqi PM also called on the international community to "take steps that would enhance stability in the region, and assign Iraq the sovereign right to protect its lands and preserve the safety of its people."

On Friday, Turkish warplanes bombed two areas in the Dohuk Governorate, Kurdistan region.

Two weeks ago, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the launching of two operations against PKK elements in northern Iraq.

Turkish operations continue inside the territory of the Kurdistan region, as the border areas continue to be bombed.

The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Turkish ambassador twice and delivered a strongly worded protest note, following these operations.

The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee had previously confirmed that Iraq had lodged a complaint with the UN Security Council against attacks on its territory.
