Iraq Reports 47 New Coronavirus Cases, Total at 1297

The Ministry of Health in Iraq on Friday reported a 47 new coronavirus cases, taking the total to 1279.

In a statement, the ministry said that the newly detected cases have been reported in eleven provinces; Baghdad, Najaf, Sulaymaniyah, Erbil, Duhok, Diyala, Wasit, Dhi Qar, Basrah, Al Muthanna, and Saladin.

"A new coronavirus death has been reported in Baghdad province, raising the death toll to 70," the health ministry in Iraq added.

"Up to 550 cases have recovered so far," it concluded.

Earlier, US Johns Hopkins University announced that the Coronavirus has infected 1,6 million people across the world since the outbreak of the pandemic in China last December.

The university published a recent statistics revealed that the deadly virus claimed lives of 95 thousand persons in various parts of the globe.

The United States of America ( USA), Italy, Spain, Iran and China top the countries with infected people and deaths in course of the three last months.

On the other hand, the number of people who recovered from the disease in the world reached 355 thousand persons.

Yesterday marked the 100th day after the World Health Organization ( WHO) declared the first case of irregular pneumonia in Wuhan, the urban center of Hubei province in the middle of China. The organisation renamed the novel Coronavirus on March 10 as COVID-19.
