Iran's chief negotiator, Ali Bagheri Kani, said that Tehran will retract the nuclear measures it took in response to Washington's exit from the nuclear agreement after verifying that the sanctions had been lifted practically on the ground.

Bagheri Kani added that "the Vienna negotiations will continue until today, Thursday, after which they will stop for three days and resume next Monday."

"Reviewing Iran's proposals regarding verification and guarantees is on the agenda in the Vienna negotiations, and all delegations emphasized the priority of discussing lifting sanctions and the verification and guarantees mechanism," the Iranian news agency quoted Bagheri Kani as saying.

The chief Iranian negotiator announced last Monday that talks at the level of expert committees in the Vienna talks will be held to discuss lifting the sanctions imposed on Tehran and the latter's proposals on verification and guarantees issues.

He stressed the need to lift the sanctions imposed on Iran, and to provide objective and sufficient guarantees from the other side, during the negotiations.

During the talks, Tehran focuses on the issue of lifting sanctions and confirms that it will not accept a new agreement or undertake any commitment more than what was stated in the agreement in its original form.

In May 2018, the United States of America (USA) unilaterally withdrew from the agreement signed between Iran and the Group of Six (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) and re-imposed economic sanctions on Iran.

And Tehran responded by abandoning some restrictions. imposed on its nuclear activities, stipulated in the agreement.
