IOM Egypt in cooperation with Terres Des Hommes (Tdh) celebrated the World Day Against Child Labor 12th of June 2022, by organizing a community event for more than 90 migrants from Sudan, Yemen and  Eritrea in a farm in Cairo, including 70 children.

As 60% of all child laborers, in the age group 5-17 years old, work in agriculture, IOM facilitated role-playing activities in the farm helping the children to know about their rights and safety at work to avoid any forms of exploitation. Besides, informational sessions for parents on the labor rights of the child, and legal age when it comes to a child worker.

TDH held creative activities for the children aiming to raise their awareness about child emotional abuse and exploitation as well as the ways to respond to such situations, according to a statement released by IOM Egypt.

Also in this regard, IOM Egypt thanked the Netherlands and the European Union through the COMPASS program, the Regional Development and Protection Programme (RDPP), and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark for the generous support.

Africa ranks highest among regions in the percentage of children in child labor and the absolute number of children in child labor is 72 million.

It's worth mentioning that this year's theme of the world day calls for increased investment in social protection systems and schemes to establish solid social protection floors and protect children from child labor.
