IOM Egypt, in collaboration with Japan's embassy and the Ministry of Health and Population, held eight training sessions which were attended by 212 Egyptian doctors to support the General Secretariat of Mental Health and Addiction Treatment (GSMHAT), in Cairo and Alexandria.

The main purpose of these workshops is to build the capacity of GSMHAT staff on different technical and medical aspects, according to a statement released by IOM.

These workshops are part of the project “Empowering Women, Migrants, and Host Communities in Egypt to cope with the impact of COVID-19 through Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services,” IOM explained.

In May, IOM Egypt in collaboration with the Egyptian Red Crescent organized also an awareness-raising symposium on the awful virus for more than 90 migrants from Yemen, Sudan, and Syria residing in Alexandria.

Within the framework of the COVID-19 response, IOM conducted the seminar to help many of them acquire critical knowledge about the deadly virus and learn the mechanism of combating this global crisis as well, said IOM Egypt.

The project is funded by the European Union, under the “Regional Response to COVID-19 in North African Countries” program, it noted.
