The Indian delegation to the G7 summit in London was self-quarantined after two members contracted COVID-19 on Wednesday.

The delegation members tested negative before heading to the UK capital, but further tests by the English authorities revealed two positive samples.

Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar announced: "As a measure of abundant caution and also out of consideration for others, I decided to conduct my engagements in the virtual mode."

He added: "That will be the case with the G7 meeting today as well."

All meetings of the Indian officials with the British, French, Canadian, Italian, American, and Japanese delegations are turned to be virtual.

The pandemic situation in India is still worsening as the state reported a new daily record number of infections which is almost 400,000 new cases.

The outbreak of the new local Indian variant drove several countries to suspend all passenger flights from India, in addition to quarantine all passengers who come from India via third country.
