On the sidelines of his participation in Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development in Africa, Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli roamed the streets of Gharb Sohail village of Aswan on Thursday.

He was accompanied by a number of ministers, including, Antiquities Minister Dr. Khaled El-Anani, Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali and Inas Abdel-Dayem, Minister of Culture.

During their tour, the Egyptian senior officials inspected the markets in the upper Egyptian village and talked with a number of traders and tourists, who confirmed that everything is going well.

Some residents of the village took selfies with the prime minister and his accompanied ministers.

It is worth mentioning that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi kicked off Wednesday the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development in Africa, the first to be held in the Upper Egyptian city of Aswan, the capital of African youth.

A number of African heads of state and government, as well as officials, are taking part in the event meant to open new channels toward achieving peace and sustainable development in the continent.

The second day of the forum includes workshops on advancing African women’s contribution to peace, security and development, supporting the transition process in Sudan, and forced displacement and mixed migration in Africa.

The two-day forum comes upon an initiative by President Sisi immediately after assuming the chairmanship of the African Union.

The Aswan forum was announced by the president in February this year during an African Union summit in Addis Ababa.

The Aswan Forum is the first of its kind platform in Africa to address the interlinkages between peace and development, and champion Africa-led solutions, through strengthening the policies-practices linkages.

The event brings together heads of state and government, representatives from regional and international organizations and financial institutions, members of the private sector and civil society, and scholars and experts for action-oriented and forward-looking discussions on the threats, challenges and opportunities for Africa in the years ahead.
