Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, on Monday at the ministry's headquarters.

They discussed "the need to reach a comprehensive & sustainable political settlement for the Yemeni crisis, and means to support efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in Yemen," Ahmed Hafez, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, said on Twitter.

Shoukry reiterated Egypt's interest in the Yemeni crisis, affirming that the country supports Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and independence, according to Hafez's statement.

Moreover, the minister stressed the need to support the path of a political solution, as well as the aspirations of the Yemeni people for a brighter future.

The minister reaffirmed that Yemen's security and stability are an integral part of the security and stability of the region.

He also highlighted Egypt's absolute rejection to use Yemeni lands as a platform to threaten the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or the security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.

On his part, Grundberg expressed his appreciation for Egypt's supportive role for Yemen, noting that he is looking forward to working with Cairo during the next stage for the benefit of Yemen and its people.
