In Pics: Shoukry Arrives in Niger for Last Leg of His African Tour

Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, is wrapping up with the President of the Republic of Niger, Mohamed Isovo, on Friday his last stop of a foreign trip to many African countries, according to the Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Counselor Ahmed Hafez.

Hafez revealed that Shoukry’s main mission was to deliver a message from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to his African counterparts over the issue of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, known in the media as GERD.

The spokesperson stated that at the beginning of the meeting, Shoukry conveyed to President Isovo the regards of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and delivered his message of sovereignty on the recent developments in the file of the Renaissance Dam.

In this context, the foreign minister reviewed in detail Egypt's position in this framework, and the efforts made during the past long years to reach a fair and balanced agreement that takes into account the interests of the three parties, which was recently crystallized in the course of Washington meetings, under the auspices of the United States and the World Bank.

On the other hand, the official spokesman added that President Isovo expressed his happiness to receive a high-ranking Egyptian official carrying his brother's message, in reference to President Sisi, regarding the recent developments of the Renaissance Dam file.

On his part, President Isovo also stressed the importance of respecting the rules of international law, pointing to the example of the Niger River issue in terms of the necessity for all parties concerned to agree on any projects to be undertaken.

Moreover, during the meeting, the two sides affirmed their aspiration to continue the current momentum in bilateral relations and build on the historical ties between the two countries, according to Hafez.

Shoukry expressed continued work towards cooperation and coordination in various fields,” added the official spokesman.
