The Ministry of State for Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs (MSIEEA), is still doing more efforts to follow up the situation of Egyptians stranded in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), following the suspension of flights in the sisterly State of Kuwait.

Nabila Makram Abdel Shaheed, Minister of Immigration, coordinated with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Chamber of Tourism Companies, to discuss support and assistance for Egyptians stranded in the UAE.

Makram contacted the "Misr El-Kheir" Foundation.

It was agreed that the Foundation would bear the accommodation expenses of stranded Egyptians in the UAE until the end of their quarantine period in hotels in the UAE. Those stranded were scheduled to travel within the past two days; they would not be able to pay the expense of the accommodation.

The minister added that cooperation with the "Misr El-Kheir" Foundation comes within the framework of concerted government and civil society organizations', and within fulfillment of the 17th goal of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals, in order to enhance partnership and coordination between the concerned parties in order to reach the provision of all forms of support to Egyptians abroad.

The minister confirmed that priority is to pay for the accommodation for those whose flights were scheduled today and tomorrow, and gradually until the end of the week announced by the Kuwaiti side to suspend air traffic to and from the sisterly State of Kuwait.

She added that if the flight suspension period is extended by the State of Kuwait, coordination will be made with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the travel companies in which they are holding their trips to the Emirates as a "transit" state, and the stranded Egyptians will be offered to return to Egypt.

She noted that the ministry has put forward a registration form for those stranded that showed the presence of about 90 % of them are in the Emirates on their way to Kuwait.

The minister also extended sincere thanks to the "Misr El-Kheir" Foundation, Dr. Abbas Al-Sadat, a consultant of internal diseases and a member of Parliament representing Egyptians abroad, and Mr. Mina Zahir Masri, residing in Dubai, UAE, for their great effort to support and assist Egyptians stranded in the Emirates.

They coordinated efforts within the framework of activating the "Let Us Support One Another" initiative. Kuwait had announced the suspension of flights and the closure of the land and sea ports as a precautionary measure until the beginning of January 2021, due to the outbreak of the new strain of Corona virus.
