The Ethiopian authorities held some Egyptian citizens captive recently in Bole airport located in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa during the Transit of their flight from Egypt to Kuwait. The held citizens sent a complaint to the Ministry of Immigration.
The Ministry of Immigration contacted the Egyptian Embassy in Ethiopia immediately to understand the situation. The embassy confirmed that they contacted the held citizens and the Ethiopian Immigration authorities to understand the truth behind the situation and also make sure that the Egyptian citizens are not mistreated.
Immigration contacted the Ministry of Tourism:
The embassy added that according to the Ethiopian authorities a number of the held citizens applied to stay in Ethiopia for 14 days before heading back to Kuwait and not for tourism according to their visas. Also, some of the citizens broke the Ethiopian mandatory COVID-19 precautionary measures.
The embassy confirmed that they are currently working on granting the held citizens’ their rights and solving the situation, explaining that the host country still has the right to take the necessary actions for hiding the real reason behind entering Ethiopia and not following the mandatory COVID-19 precautionary measures.
Also, the Ministry of Immigration contacted the Ministry of Tourism to confirm that all the traveling Egyptians are following the different mandatory precautionary measures to avoid any sanctions.
The Immigration alerted all the Egyptians who are traveling to Kuwait through Ethiopia to wait and not travel till the held citizens are released as requested by the embassy in Addis Ababa.
The Immigration urged on all the Egyptians who are going back to their jobs abroad and especially in Kuwait to be careful and not to travel unless all their paperwork is complete including the flight tickets, Visa and the Transit country confirmation for their two week stay before heading to Kuwait.
