The prominent TV presenter and Al Ahly's former goalkeeper Ahmed Shobair announced Saturday that he would run for president of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) in the upcoming elections.

"I would run for EFA president in the upcoming elections as I think it is the most suitable place for me," Shobair said in an interview with "El Match" program aired on Sada El Balad channel.

The former EFA member resigned from his post, alongside EFA's members after Egypt's shocking exit from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which was held in Egypt.

He also talked about trails made to exclude him from the upcoming elections.

"I feel that somebody is trying to make a new regulation in a way that excludes me from the upcoming elections. The current EFA president Amr El-Ganainy is not responsible for that, but the responsibility lies only on Hany Abo Rida and Ahmed Mujahid," Shobair concluded.

The normalization committee of the EFA has not decided on the date of the upcoming elections yet.

In August, the Federation International Football Association (Fifa) appointed a normalization committee for the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).

The committee included Amr Youssef Hassan El Ganainy as a chairman, Gamal Mohamed Ali as a vice president, Sahar Abdel Hak Ahmed, Mohamed Fadl Zahran, and Ahmed Abdallah Rady as members.
