The United Nations announced that heavy rains this month have displaced more than 200,000 people in Ethiopia, mostly in the Somali region of the country, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

He noted that nearly 8 million people in Ethiopia need humanitarian assistance during the current year.

Last Wednesday, Egypt’s Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouli announced the closure of schools and universities located in Greater Cairo due to heavy rainfalls.

Prime Minister’s decision was based on reports received from the Egyptian Meteorological Authority EMA that predicted heavy rainfall on Wednesday, on some areas in Cairo, Giza and Qalyubia.

According to the EMA experts, greater Cairo witnessed heavy rain in several areas, most notably Faisal, New Cairo, 6 October, amid continued drop in temperatures throughout the country.

After a day of drenching rainfall, stormy weather, accompanied by thunderstorm in the form of a cold front, cold weather swept the country, accompanied by rainfall on the northern coasts, Delta, Cairo and Sinai extending to the north of Upper Egypt and south of the cities of Hala’ib and Shalateen.

A representative of the meteorology authority Ibrahim Atta said that low temperatures would continue to sweep all Egyptian cities.
