Moments ago, the Ministry of Health announced the causalities at the Church of the Great Martyr Philopater Mercurius (Abo Sefein Church) in Imbaba.
The statement revealed that 41 were killed while 12 others were injured in the accident, adding that the main reasons for the deaths were suffocation by the smoke or stampede to escape the fire.
The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said that the minister directed concerned medical authorities to provide the injured with all required medical aid.
He highlighted that 37 ambulances were moved to the scene of the fire, and 55 people were transported to Imbaba and Al Agouza hospitals.
Regarding the injured, they are 12, 5 cases were deployed to Imbaba Hospital, and 7 were moved to Al Agouza. Moreover, 2 injured were discharged, and 4 are in critical condition.
President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi expressed his condolences to Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of St. Mark Diocese over the victims of the latest fire at the Church of the Great Martyr Philopater Mercurius (Abo Sefein Church) in Imbaba.
On Sunday, Ministry of Health announced that 55 of Imbaba’s church (Church of the Great Martyr Philopater Mercurius (Abo Sefein Church) injured in the fire that broke out were transported to near hospitals including Imbaba General Hospital and Al Agouza.
Therefore, Minister of Health Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar directed all medical facilities to introduce the required medical aids to all injured, in addition, the ministry sent 30 ambulances to the scene of the fire for rescuing and helping the injured in the fire.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the fire that broke out at a church in El Monira city in Giza governorate.
In a post on his Facebook page, Sisi added: “I am closely following the developments of the tragic accident in El Monira Church in Giza Governorate. I have directed all relevant state agencies and institutions to take all necessary measures, and immediately, deal with this incident and its effects and provide all aspects of health care for the injured.”
