Despite being a developing country, Egypt has played an essential role in shaping the society’s awareness regarding the threat of covid-19 and its inflectional consequences.

Health education campaigns had a positive impact on reducing coronavirus infection rates in recent weeks.

"Egypt has provided around four million citizens with on-the-ground health awareness training on the preventive measures against the covid-19 pandemic since the outbreak of the pandemic's last winter," Minister of Health Hala Zayed announced.

According to an official statement on Friday, Zayed explained the awareness training is part of the ministry’s objectives to intensify education and health awareness campaigns to raise awareness of citizens on sound health practices.

"Such health education campaigns and initiatives had a positive impact on decreasing infection rates in the past period," she added.

According to the Health statistics, nearly 5,000 of the ministry’s health educators have provided awareness to 3.178 million citizens nationwide through 347,510 awareness campaigns.

The educators highlighted, during the  awareness training seminars, the importance of adhering to preventive measures against the pandemic, including wearing facemasks, maintaining social distancing, washing hands regularly and disinfecting homes.

Further, the ministry launched the coronavirus hotline 105 to help citizens report infection cases. It also provided health awareness training to 821,334 citizens to curb the spread of the pandemic under the existing presidential initiative to detect and treat chronic diseases.

In the same context, approximately 105,312 education seminars have been organized through providing several health messages to citizens suffering from chronic diseases to raise awareness on the importance of regular follow-ups of their health status and adhering to a healthy lifestyle.

It's worth noting that the government officials have been urging the citizens to abide by precautionary measures taken against the pandemic. The Cabinet has called on authorities to strictly enforce fines stipulated for violations on people who don't wear face masks in door public places and public transportation.
