Hawass Holds Press Conference at Debod Temple in Madrid

Dr. Zahi Hawass the Egyptian archaeologist said that he was surprised at the good work at Debod temple in Madrid, during his speech at the press conference.

Hawass thanked Madrid for it contributing to saving the Nubia temples and villages, urging the concerned officials to protect the temple from rain and erosion. It will be a great landmark for all mankind.

Hawass explained to them his plan to care for the Egyptian temple from 1968 until today.

Meanwhile, the Madrid Mayor said that authorities would form a committee immediately to study how to protect the Debod Temple from rain.

Also, the Spanish Tourism Minister explained that this temple was damaged by rain, but due Hawass’ efforts and experience, the Temple was saved.

“Without the Egyptian archaeologist’s endeavors, it would have been disastrous for the tourism received by Madrid, because this temple is the Madrid’s antiquities jewel.”

On other hand, Mrs.Carmen Peppers said that Hawass visited the temple and asked him to protect it, adding “He made a great achievement in an hour that Spanish politicians and Egyptologists were not able to.”

Noteworthy, Hawass's statements caused stir and the mayor announced that next week, he would begin taking measures to cover the temple in front of the Spanish street.
