7th Edition of Hamsa Festival to Kick Off on Sept. 4

The 7th edition of Hamsa International Festival for Arts and Literature will kick off at the Grand Theater of the Cairo Opera House, on September 4th.

This year’s edition carries the name of the iconic artist, Mahmoud Yassin.

Many celebrities, literary figures, and media personalities are expected to attend the award ceremony.

The ceremony will witness the honoring of literary figures from various Arab countries world, winners of the festival special.

Hamsa festival will also witness the honoring of celebrities chosen by the festival jury and by a poll; they will be honored for their outstanding career and for the artistic work they presented during Ramadan.

The honorees include: Abdel Rahman Abou Zahra, Youssef Chaban, Mohamed Sobhi, Gamal Abdel Nasser, Hadi El Gayar, Ahmed Zaher, Edward, Hani Salama, Ahmed Nabeel, Khaled Anwar, Karim Afifi, Mahmoud El-Bezzawy, Nabil Nour El Deen, Hossam Dagher, Mostafa Khater, Karam Jaber , Mohsen Mohiedine, Ali el-Tayeb, Yassin Emir, Sawsan Badr, Salwa Osman, Hanan Sulieman, Hanan Motawie, Heba Magdi, Tharaa Goubail, Fatma al Kashif, Wafaa Sadeq, Hager Afify, and Mona Gabr.

Director Raouf Abd El Aziz and Peter Mimi, as well as screenwriters Abdel Rahim Kamal, Hani Sarhan, and Baher Dewidar, will also be included among the honorees.

The ceremony includes competitions in all kinds of poetry, short story, long story, script, monologue, painting, and photography.

The first edition of Egyptian magazine “Hamsa” award ceremony took place in 2016.

Yassin, born on February 19, 1941, graduated from the faculty of law in 1964.

The actor joined the National Theatre, one year before his graduation; he was the narrator in many plays such as “Solaimaan al-Halaby”, “Al-Zeer Saalem”, “Daaerat al-tabasheer al Kokaazeya i.e. The Caucasian chalk circle”.

He played lead roles in “Laylat masra’ Guevara i.e. The night Guevara was killed”, “Watany Akka i.e. Akka..my Nation”, “Laila wal-magnoun i.e Laila and her fool”, “Al-zeyaara entahet i.e. Visit is over”, “Ahlan ya Bakawaat i.e. Hello Sires” and “Al-Khedeiwy i.e. The Kepe”.

During the seventies, he became one of the most popular romantic film stars, starring in films like “Al Khayt El Rafia'” (The Think Line), “Hob wa Kibriya'” (Love and Pride) and “Al Rosasa La Tazal Fi Gayby” (The Bullet is Still in my Pocket).

He also starred in several films with actress Naglaa' Fathi, making a lot of highly successful romantic dramas.

In the nineties, Yassin shifted his career to television, starring in series like “Abu hanifa Al Noa'man,” “Did el Tayyar” (Against the Current), and “Souq El A'sr” (Afternoon Market).
