Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has begun a new diplomatic mission in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Israel and Ramallah, to support international efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza.

German Foreign Ministry spokesperson Kathrin Deschauer stated in a press briefing that this trip marks Baerbock's ninth visit to Israel and her eleventh to the region since Hamas launched its attacks on October 7th.

Before departing from Berlin, Baerbock emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, "Hamas terrorists are showing no limits to their atrocities."

She stressed the importance of continuing efforts toward a humanitarian ceasefire, which she hopes will lead to the release of hostages and an end to the violence.

Baerbock underlined that there is no military solution for Gaza or the West Bank, and reiterated her belief that a two-state solution remains the "only viable option for lasting peace."

Baerbock arrived in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday night, where she is scheduled to meet with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.

Their discussions will focus on the "tragic situation in the region" and the attacks carried out by the Houthis in the Red Sea.

Following her stop in Saudi Arabia, Baerbock will travel to Jordan to meet with the country's top diplomats, where they will discuss coordinating humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza.

On Friday, Baerbock is set to meet with Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant to discuss immediate plans for a humanitarian ceasefire, aiming to secure the release of hostages and deliver urgent aid to Gaza residents.

After her meetings in Israel, she will travel to the West Bank for discussions with Palestinian representatives, including Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, on preventing further violence in the region.
