The Egyptian Football Association Referees Committee announced the appointment of German referee Felix Brych to officiate the domestic Super Cup between Al-Ahly and its arch rival of Zamalek on Friday.

The match kicks off at 8:00 pm Cairo local time at Borg Al-Arab Stadium in Alexandria.

The Red Devils will enter the encounter as the Egyptian Premier League title champions, while the White Knights will be facing them as the Egypt Cup title holders.

Brych will be joined by assistants Mark Borsch and Stefan Lupp with the fourth official an Egyptian referee to be appointed later on, the EFA said in a statement.

The 44-year-old has previously officiated the 2010 Egypt Cup final between Al-Ahly and Haras El-Hodoud. He also was the referee of the Egyptian-Saudi Super Cup between Zamalek and Al-Hilal last year.

He was in charge of some high-profile matches in European football, including the 2014 Europa League final between Sevilla and Benfica and the 2017 Champions League final between Juventus and Real Madrid.

The German referee was selected for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil in which he officiated two matches, and he also was the referee of the first leg of the 2011–12 Champions League semi-final between Chelsea and Barcelona.

Brych was also the referee of Tuesday's Champions League game between Liverpool and Napoli, which the Italian side won 2-0 in the opening match of the group stage.

Ahly are the record winners of the Super Cup with 10 titles, seven clear of Zamalek.
