The president of the German parliament Baerbel Bas arrived in Kyiv on Sunday to discuss the latest developments in Ukraine amid the Russian invasion.

A German parliament official stated that Bas will discuss the current situation in Ukraine with the prime minister. She will also commemorate the victims of World War Two.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier gave an emotional address for Victory Day, saying that "evil has returned" to Ukraine, but it wouldn't be able to escape responsibility.

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is expected to take part in a G7 virtual discussion later on Sunday with Zelenskyy.

“The German chancellor (Olaf Scholz) will hold the third video conference since the start of the year with his G7 partners,” Christiane Hoffmann, spokeswoman for the German government as acting G7 chair, told reporters on Friday, noting that May 8 is a “historic date marking the end of World War II in Europe”.
