German Archaeological Institute Honors Bassir

German archaeologist, Dr. Stephan Seidlmayer, Director of the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo, honored Egyptian archaeologist Dr. Hussein Abdel Bassir, the director of the Antiquities Museum at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina by granting him permanent membership “Corresponding Member”.

“Corresponding Member” is an important membership and is granted only to the most important archaeologists in Egypt and the world.

Dr. Seidlmayer said that Dr. Bassir is considered as one of the most important archaeologists in the world, as he has carried out many archaeological excavations in Giza, Saqqara, Al-Mataria and El-Wahat el-Bahariya.

“He also contributed to the opening of the Sneferu's Red Pyramid or the northern pyramid in Dahshur region, and efficiently managed the pyramid area, in addition to writing and publishing many important scientific books and articles,” Dr. Seidlmayer added.

Praising Dr. Basir, Dr. Seidlmayer  said that he was responsible for major archaeological projects in Egypt such as the Grand Egyptian Museum project which is the largest museum in the world, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization project, the Pyramids Plateau Development Project, and now he is the director of the Antiquities Museum at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, which is one of the most beautiful museums in the world.

Dr. Seidlmayer noted that Dr. Basir is a prominent novelist, as he publishes archaeological awareness by writing, in Arabic and English, about Egypt, its culture and monuments in a large number of Egyptian, Arab and international newspapers and magazines.
