The energy situation in the European Union (EU) is expected to be even tighter in the winter of 2023-2024 than this heating season, Emmanuelle Wargon, the head of the French Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), stated on Friday.

Wargon noted that gas supplies to the EU will remain limited during the coming years, adding that energy tensions will continue.

"What we know is that the situation with gas supplies to Europe next winter will be much tighter than this winter," Wargon said. “And although France does not consume much gas, Europe consumes quite a lot. We use gas for heating houses, and for our industry.”

The CRE chief highlighted that France will cope with limited gas supplies this winter, but it must carefully prepare for the 2023-2024 heating season.

In previous remarks, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna revealed that Paris is sending 100 powerful French generators to Ukraine to help the country survive during the Winter.

"France is sending 100 powerful French generators to Ukraine to help the population of Ukraine survives, while Russia wants to make winter a weapon of war," Colonna noted.
