The former military chief of staff Lt. General Sami Anan was released on Sunday after being jailed for about two years.
He was sentenced to six years in jail in January for forgery and for running for president, which was against military rules.
Anan's lawyer Nasser Amin confirmed that he was released and he is now at his home.
The program presenter and famous journalist, Mostafa Bakry, affirmed that the former military chief of staff was released on his official twitter page.

Anan was also handed a three-year prison term for inciting against the military on social media platforms.
