Egypt's Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry announced the launching of the Egyptian-American joint working group on climate change.

It was agreed to establish this group during the strategic dialogue round between Egypt and US last year.

In a joint press conference with US Presidential Special Envoy John Kerry, Shoukry said that he reviewed, in detail, the Egyptian presidency's priorities of the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference COP27 and the desired goals.

Moreover, he affirmed that Egypt is seeking to raise the ambition of the international climate action at all levels, in terms of reducing emissions and adaptation.

Egypt’s Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry held talks, earlier Monday, with U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry in Cairo.

Shoukry is the President-designate of the 27th session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27).

On Sunday, Kerry arrived in Cairo for a two-day visit.

Earlier, Shoukry stressed that climate change represents a global crisis with unprecedented repercussions, underlining the importance of multilateral environmental diplomacy to confront climate change.

This came during FM’s participation, on Saturday, in a session on environmental diplomacy and climate change, as part of the activities of the Munich Security Conference.

Moreover, Egypt’s top diplomat affirmed that political balances should not reflect on the climate change negotiations.
