Fendi celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Baguette bag in the Spring 2023 show in New York Fashion Week with a lot of surprises.
Kim Jones [Artistic Director of Couture & womenswear] of Fendi said “I didn’t want to do a traditional collection for anniversary, rather it’s a celebration of a time, of the moment the Baguette became famous. I relate that time to a sense of freedom in excess and fun — both qualities the Baguette possesses.”
so Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi [Artistic Director of Accessories and Menswear] worked in collaboration for the anniversary collection with big names in fashion industry as Marc Jacobs, Tiffany & co., Sarah Jessica Parker and Japanese luggage brand Porter.
Jones & Silvia transposed the baguette bag into motifs all over the collection in many ways starting from ankle socks to cargo skirts, pockets on pants, jackets.
also the new bags reflect the baguette bag in many ways as lockers and pockets also keychains.
Jones called Mark Jacobs to design for Fendi collection as Jacobs [according to Vogue] “ “the King of American Fashion”
According to Jacobs about the collection “I’ve got one word: Fendiroma” so when Looking for the garments designed by him we can see his signature but covered by Fendi mood like oversized fuzzy hats, towering Platform Boots as a statement footwear Jacobs known for , even for the colors as silvers and fluorescent yellows with rhinestones to represent the Glamour that coexists in NYC
About the collaboration part with Tiffany & Co., its easy to recognized it as you can see the bright shade of blue used jumpsuit, menswear jacket, sunglasses, hats, and, of course, into the fresh Baguette bags which reflects the signature color of Tiffany & Co., and as luxury touch, they designed purses featured white gold fastenings and covered in diamonds.
For the special collaboration with Sarah Jessica Parker, it has special story as the S.J.P is the main reason of Fendi Baguette Bag fame when she wore it earlier in 1998 as her famous character “Carrie Bradshaw” in famous tv sequel “Sex & the city “ in many colors . the bag itself designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi [Artistic Director of Accessories & also grand-daughter of the brand Founders].
And for the anniversary, she collaborates with Silvia to create limited edition collection of new Baguette Bag made of maxi, 3D sequins in a hot pink shade to wear it in the Reboot of her famous show in 2021 “And Just like that”
also the bag available in more vibrant color like blue or purple.
For the Last Collaboration it was with the Japanese luggage brand Porter as the designed known for their hard-wearing bonded nylon and precise craftsmanship, gives the Baguette a unique reinterpretation.
For the Finale, a huge surprise made as the Legendary model Linda Evangelista “who is the current face of Fendi “shown wearing Tiffany blue Opera cape and holding one of the special bags.
