Facebook is attempting to enter the smart home market with its range of Portal and Portal Plus smart displays, though the camera-focused gadgets have made many consumers uneasy about giving even more data to a company mired in privacy scandals.

According to a new report by The Information, facebook claimed the social media giant has approached the likes of Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon to get support for their streaming services on a potential TV streaming box, which could launch before the year is out.

Facebook may hope its fortunes lie elsewhere: with a TV streaming box in the vein of Amazon Fire TV Stick, Google Chromecast, or even Apple TV 4K.

Adam Bosworth the Facebook executive, reported that Hardware is coming to the home and we want to make sure that human connection, connection between two people, is a first-party experience.

Noteworthy, the rumours of the device had been circulating earlier this year. However, it was thought that the gadget would sit directly on top of people's television.

On other hand, on December 2018, Facebook came under fire after a bombshell report discovered the firm allowed over 150 companies, including Netflix, Spotify and Bing, to access unprecedented amounts of user data, such as private messages.

It also allowed Microsoft's search engine, known as Bing, to see the name of all Facebook users' friends without their consent.
