The European Union supported the Palestinian Authority vaccination system in Palestine as the state purchased doses of COVID-19 doses, the EU announced on Wednesday.
The European bloc’s major medicines regulator, European Medicines Agency (EMA), will pay the cost for the purchased COVID-19 vaccines by Palestine.
The agency said: “We have been at the forefront of the international efforts to curb the pandemic by ensuring access to vaccines across the globe, including here in Palestine.
The EU contributed, in this respect, both by contributing to the global initiative ‘COVAX’ which Palestine benefited from, and with the EUR 20 million support to the Palestinian COVID-19 vaccination campaign, as direct financial support provided to the Palestinian Authority.”
It concluded: With this payment, the EU reaffirms its commitment to support the building of accountable institutions ready for an independent, democratic and viable future Palestinian state.”
Last month, the Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed that the Gaza Strip has been exposed to the fifth wave of the Coronavirus (known also as COVID-19) pandemic of type BA5, which has a faster spread than the original mutant.
Palestinian Health explained in a press statement that the data indicate that the number of cases expected to be registered will not reach what it was during the previous waves, noting that vaccination against the COVID- 19 virus has proven its effectiveness in enhancing immunity and providing opportunities to prevent infection or reduce infection.
The ministry stressed the need to be careful to wear the mask in crowded places, in addition to preventing visits to patients in hospitals and allowing only one escort for the patient when needed.
