The European Union imposed, Friday, sanctions on Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Miqdad.

The European Union published an official document stating that the name of Al-Miqdad, was added to the list of sanctions imposed against Syria.

The Syrian Foreign Minister was not the first Syrian official in the list, as the European Union has previously imposed sanctions on Minister of Internal Trade Talal al-Barazi, Minister of Justice Ahmed Elsayed, and Minister of Finance Kinan Yaghi.

last year in October, the EU expanded its list , adding seven new Syrian ministers.

It stated that those sanctions were due to the violent repression of the Syrian civilian population.

“They also target companies and prominent business people benefitting from their ties with the regime and the war economy,” it noted.

“Restrictive measures also include a ban on the import of oil, restrictions on certain investments, a freeze of the Syrian central bank's assets that are held in the EU, export restrictions on equipment and technology that could be used for internal repression and on equipment and technology for the monitoring or interception of internet or telephone communications.”
