The European Commission called the EU member states to avoid non-essential traveling to India, Youm 7 reported on Saturday

The main aim of the new travel restrictions is to control the outbreak of the Indian COVID-19 variant, that's why Ursula von der Leyen, the chief of the commission said that EU members should work together to restrict the danger of the mutated virus.

However, the Commission underscored that this plan will be temporary especially after announcing the Indian Variant as "Variant of concern" instead of "Variant of interest" by the World Health Organization.

The EU Commission said in a statement: “It is important to limit to the strict minimum the categories of travelers that can travel from India for essential reasons and subject those who may still travel from India to strict testing and quarantine arrangements."
