EU Calls for De-escalation in Kazakhstan

Today, Sunday, the European Union renewed its call for de-escalation in Kazakhstan, avoiding violence and exercising restraint at all times.

In a statement published by the European Union’s External Action Service on its official website, the Union expressed its concern over the violence that erupted in the wake of peaceful protests in Kazakhstan, which is an important partner of the European Union, adding: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of life and strongly condemn the widespread acts of violence.

"It is important to avoid further escalation, to avoid any incitement to violence, to show restraint at all times and to avoid exploiting the unrest for other purposes".

The European Union pointed out to its readiness to provide assistance for reaching a peaceful solution to the crisis, stressing the need for "external supporters" to respect the sovereignty and independence of Kazakhstan as well as the fundamental rights of all citizens.

The EU calls on the Kazakh authorities to "abide by their commitments at this difficult time, including respect for the human rights and fundamental freedoms of their citizens, in particular freedom of assembly, freedom of expression and the media." the announcement of the head of European diplomacy.
