An Ethiopian government taskforce announced on Sunday that Ethiopian troops have taken full control of Idaga Hamus town, 97 km (60 miles) from Tigray capital Mekelle, according to Reuters.

In a post on "Twitter", the taskforce said: “Our defence force took control of Idaga Hamus town which is located on the road from Adigrat to Mekelle."

"The Defence force is advancing to capture Mekelle, which is the final goal of the operation," it added.

Tigray forces have not yet commented on these reports.

It is worth mentioning that, this morning, the Ethiopian army threatened to use 'tanks' to capture Mikkeli city, the capital of the Tigray region, from Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) forces, according to Sky News.

Moreover, It warned civilians that it may also fire artillery shells on the city.
