Tunisian reports claimed on Monday that Espérance Sportive de Tunis could face heavy sanction from the Confederation of the African Football (CAF) after the recent riot occurred before the semi-final match.

Clashes broke out between Tunisian Police and ES Tunis fans at Rades stadium before the beginning of the semi-final match against Al Ahly of Egypt.

The Red Devils secured a 1-0 win over the Tunisian club on Saturday in the first leg of the last four as the second tie will take place in Cairo on Saturday, June 26.

Police responded to taunts from an unruly crowd by firing tear gas and stun grenades as both squads abandoned warming-up on the pitch and fled to the changerooms with some coughing and others gasping for breath.

Amid fears that the clash of the north African giants would be called off, order was restored and Ahly agreed to play after a one-hour delay having received a written pledge guaranteeing their safety.

According to "Tunisienumerique," newspaper the football's governing body in Africa would impose heavy sanction on the Tunisian team, as the CAF's executive committee warned the Tunisian representative in CAF from any riot made by the Tunisian fans.

The Tunisian newspaper also said that CAF will impose a strict financial sanction on the Tunisian club, as well as, banning fans from attending a match for them in the next edition of the CAF Champions League.
