According to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, 35.418 people perished as a result of the earthquakes last week, making it the deadliest calamity since the nation was founded 100 years ago.

Approximately 33,000 individuals perished as a result of the devastating Erzincan earthquake in 1939.

Erdogan said that the earthquakes on February 6 that were centred in Kahramanmaras had caused 105,505 injuries.

Erdogan was addressing in Ankara after a five-hour Cabinet meeting that took place at the AFAD headquarters.

A 65-year-old Syrian man and a small daughter were rescued from a building's rubble in Antakya, a city in southern Turkey, 208 hours after a severe earthquake devastated the area, according to Reuters television.

Emergency personnel hoped that more family members would soon be saved. With the pair's rescue, there are now nine people who have been rescued from the rubble as of Tuesday.
